When and where was the concept of G135 created and how long did it take you to get where you are today? |
The concept was created about a year and a half ago. Kavan and Brenton Tucker came across the space while searching for a place to house a retail concept at the time. After viewing it myself, the logical decision seemed to be some sort of a market concept where we could capitalize on the space through a passive-rental-income-based concept. It seemed particularly fitting in light of the many woes experienced on the part of retailers in Bermuda. It was also apparent it was an awesome solution to entrepreneurs out there looking to have a real presence without the start up costs (and risk) that come with launching a retail operation in Bermuda. As we firmed up the concept food/beverage as well as art elements where added. The final 3-part concept includes retail (powered by local entrepreneurship), lounge, cafe and full bar, art, wireless internet and weekend nightlife.

Who does your gallery primarily cater too? |
|
| People looking for something different. The environment, often described as a ‘concept space’, has gone over very well with art lovers, shoppers, internet cafe fans, and during the weekends people looking for a New York / London club experience (Fluid Fridays) and great live entertainment (Saturday Night Live) |
 |
What type of products do you sell and which are the most popular? |
|
| Hand crafted jewelry and art has been most popular. Additionally, shoppers can purchase eastern style copper wares, designer blankets, locally manufactured pottery, tech items (usb flash drives), handbags and clothing. On the food/beverage side there is the full bar, great coffees and a really healthy selection of sandwiches, salads and smoothies. We plan to phase in a winter menu featuring really good soups and specialty coffees. |
| What do you see for the future of G-135? |
| Going forward we expect to see the quality of vendors/products improving as well as the art. The menu will definitely evolve with a strong emphasis on healthy options/alternatives and vegan/vegetarian options. We will continue filling out the calendar with special events and themed evenings. |
| G-135 is still fairly new, can you offer any advice to someone starting a business at this time in Bermuda? |
| to focus on the cons. Too often people move forward with business plans founded on passion and less-than-sound strategy. A business plan that is thought through objectively and thoroughly critiqued is far more likely to have a fighting chance. |
