NON MARINERS RACE August 2, Mangrove Bay, Sandys
A great Bermudian tradition was born the day a group of drinking bud-
dies launched a carriage over board in attempt to sail from Albuoy’s Point to Whites Island and back. The carriage sank but the tradition lived on and has become one of the most popular annual water events in Bermuda’s history. Non-mariners refer to this annual event as a “non-race” while the objective is to loose in the most astonishing fashion. Unseaworthy vessels line up and are sailed by inebriated non-mariners who put on a show never to be forgotten each and every year. |
